30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 2
The writing challenge for Day 2 is Your Earliest Memory. I’m in my 40’s. This is a little tough! The earliest thing I recall is being at a doctor’s office or ER. I was lying on a table and that giant, round light was above me. A doctor or nurse was holding me down and I was screaming. Apparently I had shoved a pea up my nose. I don’t remember that part, my mother told me. So the medical people were trying to get that pea out of my nose and I did not appreciate it at all. My dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed at Charleston, SC, at the time. I have no other memories of Charleston, just the stories my mom told me. I don’t recall ever sticking anything up my nose again, so I guess I was properly traumatized and learned my lesson.
Now this one I don’t remember, but it’s affected me my entire life. My mom took me to a drive in movie theater to see Dumbo (yes, I’m old!). She said I got really upset when Dumbo was taken from his mother. I cried and was inconsolable the entire movie. To this DAY, when Dumbo comes on I immediately tear up and get upset and never really knew why until she told me this story. My kids have never seen Dumbo because I couldn’t watch it. Sorry, kids!
So that’s it. My earliest memory is having a pea removed from my nose!
